An intranet is a computer network for sharing information, easier communication, collaboration tools, operating systems, and other computing services within an organization, usually excluding outside access. The term is used in contrast from public networks such as the internet, but instranet uses much of the same technology.
A company-wide intranet can provide an important focal point for internal communication and collaboration, and can provide a single point of entry for access to internal and external resources. In its simplest form, an intranet is based with local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) technologies).
